When Hans heard that I was in Zimbabwe doing more research he immediately connected me with Eddious Nyagweta. He was so accommodating and happy to help me out with my research. I have a video interview of him that I will soon post. I was so happy that he graciously agreed to take me to see Sylvester Mubayi who is one of the famous pioneers of Zimbabwean sculpture. Hans was right, he is also a greet story teller. I have footage of him too.
Through Eddy I also met Perlagia Mutyavaviri who is also an internationally acclaimed sculptor.
From interviewing all of these three artists I learnt that Zimbabwean (shona) tradition is not as relevant in art as it used to be. Sylvester refereed to some of it in his work, but the younger artists such as Eddy and Perlagia tend to tackle other themes too.
